Construction of a New 8 Family Domestic Violence Shelter Begins

We are thrilled to announce that construction has begun on a new domestic violence shelter we were able to purchase with funds from The City of Los Angeles Proposition HHH. The building will shelter eight more families as well as provide space for job training. Job training will begin Fall 2019 with a wonderful new Los Angeles House of Ruth (LAHR) partner; someone who has exciting ideas and is eager to work with our mothers!

Fundraising is still underway to fully support and complete this exciting project. Stay tuned for more information or sign up to receive LAHR e-news and stay connected.

Current Challenges and Future Goals

The needs of homeless families are becoming more severe. Mental health and alcohol and drug use is rising among homeless families. More than ever, we need your support as we continue with our mission to serve these families.

We continually strive to strengthen our fundraising efforts so that we can serve our clients better — and to be able to serve more of them. With increased funding, our goal is to acquire additional shelter houses and double the number of families we serve by 2021. Additional funds would also provide what our families need beyond what government funds allow. We would love to be able to take our families on relaxing mental health trips like beach days or yoga and art classes. Trips like this would give a different and positive perspective to life’s problems.

LAHR Needs You!

LAHR needs new sources of funding, private funding sources, additional Board members, corporate donors, and volunteers with strong commitment. LAHR was able to purchase a new shelter house in 2019. This property will be developed into a small permanent supportive apartment building as soon as funding is secured. Another reason we’re working so hard on fundraising and need your help.

Please contact us if you’d like to make a positive difference in the lives of the women and children we serve. Online donations are also greatly appreciated.
